Dalesmen to sing 'a song for Derbyshire'.
The song 'The Best That You Can Be' was written by two Derbyshire composers around lyrics suggested by Derbyshire school children. Now the Belper-based Male Voice Choir, the Dalesmen, have commissioned an arrangement in four parts for male voices. Next we have to learn and practice it so that we can add it to our repertoire for concerts. To find out more about this special song visit Derbyshire County Council's website. Over 1,700 children and young people from 46 schools, 3 area music centres, 1,100 singers and 270 instrumentalists filmed across 32 locations... all with a single motivational message - to be the Best That You Can Be. The Derbyshire Music Education Hub brings you this specially commissioned song collaborating with Glossop-based composers Dan Whibley and James Manson. School children suggested lyrics, the Derbyshire City and County Youth Orchestra and Youth Wind Band rehearsed and recorded the instrumentals and schools and music centres decided where they would like their performances to be filmed.
