Broadway Baptist Church, Derby. Saturday 8th May 2010

“THE DALESMEN” – A DERBYSHIRE TREASURE
“It’s a grand night for singing” was the Dalesmen’s title for their first number in their recent Saturday concert at Broadway. Indeed it was, agreed the full audience that night.
It has taken me until two concerts this year to hear just how good this Belper based choir really is. They well and truly scuppered the claim that only the Welsh still produce good men’s choirs! Thirty-five Derbyshire singers produced a wonderfully trained blend of voices in an entertaining and varied programme of old favourites to modern arrangements of film music and a fun harmonica solo for good measure.
They even threw in Hugh Robertson’s “All in the April Evening” which brought back memories of our own church choir in its heyday! A highlight for me was their first performance of a wonderfully intricate arrangement of “The gospel train”. Not proper music said Margaret, but an entertaining and demanding piece for sound effects and expression.
Their Musical Director (also a relaxed compere) has clearly inspired them to sing from memory with great enjoyment and sheer musical class. Singing must be good for them as well, as their oldest member (aged 107) was present and in good speaking voice still!
Thanks to Malcolm King, their member and ours, for arranging this visit. Make sure you do not miss any future chance to hear them!

Thank you to everyone who supported this – and to the Choir for a memorable evening.

Painted Hall, Chatsworth House. March 2010

The Mayoress and I would like to thank you for agreeing to perform for our guests recently at the charity concert held at the Painted Hall, Chatsworth House. Raising funds for the Mayors Appeal 2009/10, in these hard times is a challenge but it is made easier when great choirs like yours, donate their services.Concerts in the Painted Hall are always special but your contribution to the evening's entertainment made it even more so. I am pleased to say the evening was enjoyed by all and particular reference was made to yourselves and how much they enjoyed your programme.

Christ Church - 26th September 2009

The tone & balance of the choir was of high order and was most impressive. For the top tenors singing high notes quietly is not easy, for those of us feeling the ravages of the passing years but they managed it with aplomb. The baritones displayed good accurate singing and the tone of the Basses was superb. Once again very well done

The Vicarage, Duffield. June 2009

I am writing to give a big "Thank You"to you and to all the Dalesmen who took part in the vicarage garden concert here last friday evening. I thought that you were brilliant and was particularly grateful for the obvious thought and care that had gone into deciding what songs to sing that would best fit the occasion. It was a great way to end the evening and I have had numerous comments back on how much people enjoyed the singing of the Dalesmen.

"On behalf of the ladies, thank you for a great evening. The concert was fabulous. Our "groupies" said both choirs sand exceptionally well. The social afterwards was very enjoyable, something that we don't do very often, makes it all the more enjoyable when we do. There were many requests for a return visit, so watch this space. We will be in touch".

Ambergate - 4 April 2009
I have waited until we have the final figure for the concert, which is £1060, we were absolutely amazed! Now I would like to say a very big thank you to your good self, and to all the members of The Dalesmen Male Voice Choir for such a wonderful evening, it was absolutely brilliant, everything about the event was fantastic. Your choice of songs was great, as was your "compere" and we hope that you will return when the work is complete!! I would also like to congratulate you all on your attire - you looked so very smart (why not enter the choir of the year competition on TV). Our very best wishes to you all, and again many, many thanks for such a lovely and successful evening.

Landau Forte College, Derby - 5 December 2008
What a wonderful evening it was last Friday. I have received nothing but praise for the concert. One person related that the concert was the best one she had been to. The programme from both the Dalesmen and Derwent Brass helped enormously in the public enjoyment of the evening. Please convey our very grateful thanks to Andrew and everyone in the Choir, not forgetting Sian Mosley, who I thought did an excellent job. We look forward to seeing you all again next year.

Penkridge 25 October 2008
On behalf of the the Penkridge Royal British Legion, thank you very much indeed for the concert. The music was splendid and musical director George Hardy of my choir, the Cannock Festival Chorus, had a good chat with Andrew. You never know we may singing with you in the future We thought the night was a tremendous success and we raised the magnificent sum of £560.00 for our Poppy Appeal. Everyone who I have seen since said what a great night it was and when do you come again. I think perhaps we had better wait for a couple of years for that, although I don't think we would have any trouble filling the Church again.

The concert was a great success and was enjoyed immensely by everyone. We made in the region of f780 which is absolutely brilliant and this will cover the cost of Christmas presents for our members with a learning disability and part of the catering for our Christmas party. Thank you so much for your part in the concert and your help with raising some money for our Society. We will most certainly contact you again in the future to arrange another concert to augment our funds. Our best wishes to you all and keep singing!

Thank you so much for the cheque for £320 donated to the MS Pioneer Fund. You will probably know that Ian is right in the middle of his treatment and going through a very rough time. He appreciates how much people care and that is sustaining him. We're all hoping he is over the worst and will be back singing with both groups soon. Matlock G & S also enjoyed the concert. Perhaps we can do it again sometime. Many thanks and best regards.

St. Luke's Church, Leek, Staffordshire - October 2007
"On behalf of the Scout Holiday Homes Trust, I would like to thank the Dalesmen Male Voice Choir for their performance on 27 October 2007. What a wonderful night we had, it was amazing. The comments we received last night and this morning were really nice, everyone enjoyed the concert so much. After the concert Colonel (Dr.) Sethi (Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire) was really impressed with all the performers on the night and said he especially enjoyed the soloist and the choir singing together. At the concert were a number of residents from the Nursing Home, where I work and one gentleman, Frank, some years had a bad stroke, which took his speech. Last night Colonel Sethi spotted the Regimental Badge on Frank's blazer and went to talk to him. With all the excitement of the concert I though I would call to see if he was all right this morning. When I arrived, Matron said, "You had better go up to see Frank". To my amazement he had started to talk, not very well yet, but you could tell what he was trying to say. It seems that he enjoyed the concert very much. God bless him, he made me feel quite emotional. Thank you all once again".

Bury St. Edmunds - September 2007
"My sincere thanks to all the Dalesmen for the valuable contribution that you made to a very successful concert at Trinity on Saturday evening. On Sunday I heard so many expressing how enjoyable they found the concert. It was also a success in financial terms. The final amount raised was just short of £1,200 of which £600 is being sent to the Zimbabwe Victims Support Fund, to be used to sustain people at the very edge of existence. I hope that you had a good concert on Sunday and a safe journey home and I look forward to a future event which might allow us to sing together again "

Bury St. Edmunds - September 2007
"I hope you all arrived home safely. Just a line to say how much we enjoyed your company last weekend. My wife and I enjoyed your concert at Harleston. It was nice to see a concert without all the hard work involved in putting it on. It was obvious to us that, not only were you a good Choir but also a happy Choir and we look forward to visiting you in 2009."

"Thank you to The Dalesmen Male Voice Choir for a great concert which put another £881 profit from the evening into our coffers. It won't be there long because we have just been asked if the "Friends" could fund two oxygen concentrators at £1,000 each. Anyway, please thank Andrew White and the Choir".

Matlock - April 2007
"Thank you so much for the wonderful farewell concert you presented this evening and for the beautiful flowers. Brian and I very much appreciated it all. Thank you, too, for the "This is Your Life" - I couldn't have made up a better story! (especially taking five years off my life). I received £430 - £230 has gone towards repairs at the Church and £200 to St. Lukes Cheshire Hospice (my husband's brother died of cancer last week). Every continued blessing".

"On behalf of the Derbyshire Association for the Blind I would like to thank the Dalesmen Male Voice Choir for your contribution towards Pat Taylor's retirement party on Saturday evening. Many people have told me how much they enjoyed the music you performed. You gave the evening a real flavour of success. Many members of staff worked hard to ensure Pat enjoyed a night to remember. We could not have achieved this without the help and support you have given us. I would like to personally thank you for making the process very simple. You are a very professional outfit and a pleasure to work with".

Belper - March 2007
"Thank you so much for organising a wonderful concert on Saturday evening. Your support is very much appreciated and really does make a difference to the lives of the children and families in our care. Rainbows offers respite, palliative and terminal care for the children as well as offering support for the whole family. Care is provided by a dedicated and caring team of professional nurses, carers and therapists in a "home from home" environment. To continue to provide the care and support to the children and their families we have to raise in excess of £2 million every year and this really wouldn't be possible without the kind help and support we receive from organisations and people like you. Sadly the need for Rainbows will never disappear but with help such as yours we can continue to provide this very special care and support. Once again, many thanks for thinking of rainbows. With deepest regards, Community Fundraiser"
