Musical Director

John Lloyd

At the choir’s AGM, John Lloyd agreed to take up the post of Musical Director.

John has been Deputy MD for the choir for the last six years or so and since Andrew White’s resignation in March has been acting MD.

Born in South Wales, close to the Gower peninsula, he was educated at Gowerton Grammar School and Swansea University where he graduated in Metallurgy.

After settling in to employment at Rolls Royce he pursued a career in the discipline of metallurgical technology management until his retirement.

He is married to Valerie and they have lived in Belper for over 40 years, they have 2 sons and 4 grandsons.

Although he did not choose to pursue a professional musical career he has been passionately fond of music from a young age.

He began with piano lessons and music theory at the age of seven and continued with further theory at Grammar school where there was an exceptionally strong music department.

In his school years he sang in choirs as a boy soprano and eventually a bass!

Having learned to play the double bass in the school orchestra he became co-principal bass player in the Glamorgan County Youth Orchestra until his University days where he became chairman of the University Orchestral Society.

He has many years experience of singing bass in male voice choirs and is now thoroughly enjoying rehearsing and conducting “the friendliest and most responsive choir.”

Bill was born at Eastwood, Nottinghamshire and now lives at Tansley, near Matlock. He is married to Mary and they have a son and a daughter.

He is also organist / pianist for Tansley Methodist Church and for other musical groups in the area. Bill says, "I see my strength in accompanying rather than as a soloist, so I enjoy contributing to the overall sound of the Choir in full harmony"
He is a loyal and highly valued member of the Dalesmen, where he is known as "Mr. Reliable".

Sian Started playing piano at the age of 5 and continued with music throughout her academic life, including University where she gained a degree in History and then went on to achieve a Masters in Library Studies.
Following her academic period at University, Sian pursued her musical studies and attained Grade 8 on Piano, the highest level that can be achieved, and for the past 3 years has been able to pass on her knowledge and skills in the teaching of piano.
Sian is married to Jason and they have two children but she still finds time to use her skills to benefit a music group at the Baptist Church in Belper, a Mums and Toddlers group known as "Little Church" at St Peters Church Belper and has accompanied soloists at the Derby Arts Festival.
Not only can she play piano but also plays violin.
